Street Style in the Midnight Hour: Part 1

I'm starting a new segment, called Street Style in the Midnight Hour, which will feature a the street style photo of the people in Atlanta that I stumble upon. I will post around midnight eastern time. I figured it made a lot of sense because I'm a night owl and I'm usually my most productive around the midnight hour. Ever since I started this blog in 07, I have always wanted to post street style photos but never happened to have my camera on me when I do find people. Luckily for the past month, I have been keeping my camera on me and taking photos of any and everything I come across. Maybe this will convince and motivate me to post more!

I found this darling lady driving in 5 pm rush hour traffic on the streets of Atlanta. I literally swerved around in traffic to take a photo of her. I am ABSOLUTELY in LOVE with her black and white floor length coat. Very Mod and Tribal at the same time. She says she has had this coat for years! Talk about timeless!

What do you guys think about the new segment for The Fashion Scavenger?

New Style Crush: Julia Sarr Jamois

Happy Tuesday!

If you have been a loyal reader or a personal friend of mine, you would know, that I am OBSESSED with Solange Knowles, sister of Beyonce'. She has been a personal style icon of mine for the last year and i plan on keeping it that way for years to come. Doing my usual daily blog roll, I logged into streetpeeper.com. This is one of my favorite blogs to read but I always forget to read it frequently. I came across this beautiful miss with the most beautiful afro and I  was intrigued. Who is she?I have seen her all over these  popular blogs  every now and thenand I just thought she was some random girl who looked cool.   Luckily, streetpeeper.com usually labels their photos with the model's name, so I decided to google her. This mademoiselle is a 23 year old fashion editor of Wonderland Magazine! She is from London, has done modeling for Fred Perry and Diesel  and some freelance styling. Amazing right? She is like my British Solange! She mixes prints, tailored pieces, many textures, and colors. She is the epitome of effortless! Perfect mix of quirky, grunge, and structure. I've never heard of Wonderland magazine, but after reading it for hours last night and all of  this morning, I think it is my new favorite magazine. The photos are beautiful and the page layouts are well done. I love that you can read all of the articles and view the editorial shoots online! For your viewing pleasure of how amazing this girl's style is, I'm uploading some of my favorite style photos! Thank you, StreetPeeper..... once again, you have inspired me!

 Julia Sarr- Jamois
I just bought a polka dot sweater just like this except its grey and creme. It's super adorable, and super Julia Sarr.

That jumpsuit is to die for!

I have always loved the mix between stripes and prints. It always looks fun but not messy and disheveled! Is this your boyfriend Julia? I hope so, because his style is just as amazing.

Business/ Party...perfect lunch date outfits!
I want both of these fur coats in my closet right now + the glitter wedges. Who are these made by? Let's talk about this african yellow printed skirt too... I need to do some serious research.

I need to add gray triblend tights to my christmas wishlist, asap.

I remember seeing this cover in Barnes & Noble. I should've bought it when I had the chance. Reminds me of Lisa Frank..my childhood favorite. i was a true fan of her school supplies. i had everything Lisa Frank!

P.S. I'm considering starting either a youtube channel or podcast? Which one are you guys more likely  follow?

A.Y. Not Dead

One of my new favorite designers that I found while working on a business plan for a specialty denim store for class. It has taken me hours to come across this brand as well as find some of styles I would like to sell in my "store." A.Y. Not Dead is an Argentine brand that rarely has an United States presence. They have about three stores in Argentina and sell to a few e- commerce sites, such as Fabricly, which is also a new favorite site of mine. I love this promo video for Summer 2012! I'm interested to see how this label grows and where they'll be in five years. If I ever did build a store, this would be a dream label to have! I would most definitely visit Argentina just to go to this store and shop.

WANTED: Mandy Coon

Mandy Coon, In Between Days Jumpsuit, $810, openingceremony.us

"Rough edged romanticism!"- Mandy Coon
I absolutely, positively ADORE this partial leather jumpsuit. This jumpsuit is perfect for any occasion. I could wear this to an art opening, go get coffee in this, go to an important interview in this, or even eat a humongus extra messy hamburger in this and still look amazing. I can do SO much with this if I had it! There are no accessories needed but would look great with bold necklaces, piled on rings or piled on bracelets. I could put a maxi skirt on top of this and turn it into a dress, wear it with a red blazer, wear a colorful floral turban, studded loafers, etc. This is really a fall must have and if I can spulrge on anything this fall, it would be this versatile, easy transitoning, chic piece. I love you Mandy Coon!

P.S. This model's gray hair dye job is AMAZING!

My adventure to the Sweet Auburn Farmers Market.

Woke up at 9 am Saturday morning to go to the Sweet Auburn Market with my friend Sydia. We had so much fun walking around, trying out new pastries and burritos from a place that was created in California. We found so many meats we have never seen before(Pig Ears, turkey feet,), pure honey and freshly baked bread. This market had a sit down area with many vendors selling Jamaican, Soul food, Burritos and even Indian food!

Head in a mountain of bread! I was so excited to be at the market!

My friend, Sydia, liked the sound of this!

Freshly baked cupcakes made by Sweet Auburn Bakery. I left with Pumpkin Tea Bread! It was sooo delicious!

Nothing but fresh, delicious, healthy veggies! I found some new veggies to cook with also!

I've never seen bell peppers that big and healthy before!

Wildflower honey....I was curious about this and what it actually tasted like. Unfortch, I didnt leave with any. I need to google it and find out more.

Black Eyed Peas by the pound!

I bought some sliced yams for $2 to make some at home.

After a long day, I needed to get some burritos in my system!

I plan on visiting the Decatur Farmers Market soon, which I hear is the best farmers market in Georgia, is ridiculously big(5 times bigger than this one) and has rows and rows of spices. I was looking for spices at the Sweet Auburn and they didn't have any, which was a bummer!

These are Pendleton for Opening Ceremony and  Oh.mah. gahhh! These pants are such a dream! I love anything that is kaleidoscopic or navajo and these pants are both! The print is so crazy, the colors are so bright, the high waist is perfect...I love everything about these pants. I can't even talk about it anymore. Maybe I'll make this a fall splurge???

Whenever I move to Mexico City, this is what I would wear for days.

I went home to New Orleans this past weekend and had the time of my life! More importantly, I did some shopping that I shouldn't have been. Luckily, I went to "look around" because I found so much stuff that has been missing from my life and from my closet.  I bought this cute American Rag Maxi Dress and I COULD NOT wait to wear it! I am so excited about it in fact, that I am even showing you photos of it with use of my blurry Macbook Pro Camera. This dress is a perfect summer dress but also transitions well into fall. I can put this on with a navy blazer, leather jacket, combat boots, wedges, oxfords, really anything! This is probably my new favorite thing in my closet.

Don't mind my messy room.
One shouldered, comfortable, colorful yet muted. I think this dress is great.
Dress: American Rag, Belt: Flea market find, Watch: Betsey Johnson

Obviously I love floral.

Custo Barcelona....ooooh!

I discovered Custo Barcelona earlier this week by watching Fashion Week Live on YouTube and I absolutely fell in love! I cannot believe I never knew about this duo until this week. Their work is perfection. Surprisenly the ready to wear is pretty affordable also and can be found at www.shop.custobarcelona.com. Their Spring/ Summer RTW 2012 was one of my absolute favorites of fashion week so far, after Derek Lam S/S 12! I love that seafoam green,my favorite color, will be seen every where for Spring and Summer '12! The prints are so vivid, with hypnotic geometric styles, the flowiness and sheerness of pants and tops,..i love it all! It is all soo interesting to look at! I really could stare at their collection for hours. Custo Barcelona was founded by two brothers David and Custodio Dalmau! They have been showing at Fashion Week every year since 1997. Here are some of my favorite looks from the S/S 12 Custo Barlcelona collection!

Those pants are to die for. Its such an unusual pairing of colors but i absolutely love it. So unexpected.

This outfit is bananas! The chevron stripes, sporty hooded vest and watercolor blotched pants are to die for! I would do anything to have these pants in my closet!

Love!

This man looks like a dream! peacock pants! beautiful!

I love this mix of peacock, plaid and palm trees!

My absolute favorite piece inthis collection! Very Bermuda, vibrant, geometric shapes mixed with stripes!

I cannot really tell what is going on with the shorts, but I adore them.

Look at that jacket! He looks great!

Look at all of those vivrant colors and the hand work on every piece. It all makes my heart flutter! What do you guys think of the Cusco Barcelona S/S 12 collection??

RIP Amy

Today is such a SAD day! I hate to hear about this before I have to go into work. I have always been in love with Amy ever since her blown up success in the states. Her music was raw and real...Her music was very close to my heart and has gotten me through some sucky situations. I'm not surprised but I was rooting for her to fight through her struggled and addictions. She was currently working on her new album and I was highly anticipating it. I cannot express how heartbroken I am and I'm still in disbelief about it, really. I dressed up like her for Halloween '08 and I won best costume and impersonation. RIP Amy, you are so cute and sassy, and I love you dearly. Enjoy this video, " In My Bed"..one of my favorite songs and videos by Amy.

White Short, Red short

Finally I am able to post! I was having some photo uploading difficulties but I figured it out. I bought these BDG High Waisted white shorts from Urban Outfitters and was extremely ecstatic to finally have a pair of white shorts, especially high waisted pair. I love anything high waisted really. I kept trying to wear them with my outfits and it just never worked out. I realized after three weeks of buying them, that I actually hated how white shorts/ jeans looked on my bottom half. I always felt self conscious whenever I would put the shorts on. I wanted to return them but I realized I threw away my receipt for them(great right?)so I had to keep them in my closet. After that, I decided that it's time to get creative and find a way to wear them shorts, find a way for me to love them again. It was time to DYE them! It was super easy and I'm so much happier with the shorts now that added some color to them. I'll give you a step by step guide on how to dye anything of yours that white, cream or a light color. It usually works on denim or cotton.
BEFORE DYEING
Took this picture to show you guys the before photo of my shorts that I love/hated.

Step 1: Go to a supermarket(Target, Walmart, Kroger), go to the crafts aisle and look for a fabric dye. There were so many colors that I was unable to contain my excitement! There was turquoise, lavender, red, light blue, fucshia, and even bright yellow!(Seriously it cost $2.00 for one pack)

Step 2. Fill a stainless steel sink or bowl up with extremely hot water.(The hotter the water, the deeper the color, and the less it fades when you wash it). Pour the whole power packet of dye into the hot water and mix until dissolved. (You might want to wear gloves, because my hands were stained after. The label should have these type of warnings.)

Step 3. Put your shorts or jeans into the water and stir constantly for 20 minutes straight. (Yes I know this may hurt your arm for a while but I promise it will be worth it! )

Step 4. After 20 minutes has passed, you can occasionally stir it for another 20 minutes.

Step 5. Next you would want to rinse the shorts off with cold water. I did it until the water was mostly clear. Gently ring out the shorts to get rid of excess water.

Step 6. Let it air dry. This took about two days to fully dry. That's it! Simple! Here is the end result!

Red Shorts AFTER DYING!
It dried just in time for July 4th and I got so many compliments on them! These are now one of my favorite pair of high waisted shorts. I think I'll buy another pair and dye those lavender!
