Love for Autumn.

Aloha,

I always look forward to the fall. It's not SUPER hot or SUPER cold, it's just right. People are always in a good mood. There are always a lot more band shows and random events going on around the city and school is starting soon... It's a happy time.I have a HUGE feeling that for the fall my style will be more of androgyny mixed with femininity. I have really been into OVERSIZED blazers with unique or OVERSIZED buttons, Men Oxfords in browns and dark greens, super frilly or ruffled dresses, and exaggerated rings.Let's throw in a few some handmade clothes(clothes with embroidery, beading, bright colorful stitching) in there too.

I've been into the Native American inspired clothes this entire summer. I have braided in feathers into my hair, wearing clothing that is all about the colorful stitching and meticulous handwork, neutral colors, and low key natural makeup. I'm sure my love for the Native American inspired clothes will carry on into the fall for me, but just with little bit more androgyny and femininity. I am all for mixing oversized blazers with shorts, boots, strapless shirts and strapless dresses this fall...I have even thinking about trading my red lipstick for a plum lipstick. I will probably bring back the red lipstick for the winter. Sadly summer is almost over and we must change up the wardrobe a bit for the upcoming season. I also plan on buying a bunch of bright, colorful, oversized buttons from Wal-mart and sewing them onto my blazers, purses, shirts and sweaters. Here are my Top 10 Obsessions(so far) for the Fall....

1. Oversized Blazers
2. Exaggerated or Oversized Jewelry
3. Men Shoes on men or women(Dark greens, Black and white Oxfords)
4. Sturdy Handmade Small Shoulder Purses
5. Anything Equestrian
6. Neutrals/Small hint of color
7. Hair Accessories(Feathers,Bows, painted bobby pins, headbands,etc)
8. Festive high waist full skirts
9. Bow Ties ,Side- Parted hair, structured vests for men
10. Leopard/Tiger/Giraffe Print.

I have a Love/Hate relationship with money

I absolutely HATE this recession and I hate not having a job. This recession never had an effect on me until like two weeks ago-when job hunting turned into a job. YES, let me rephrase. Job hunting for jobs has turned into my job. I'm not finding any jobs! Nowhere is hiring. People are limiting there options. People are losing business. It's insane. I just dont understand. I've had interviews and was pretty sure at the time that they wanted to hire me UNTIL I tell them I go to school 9hours away. New Orleans isn't having this.
This recession is making me want to shop more than ever, and thats probably how i got into this situation in the first place. I have not been thrifting as often.I've been reading fashion blogs more than ever. I've been online window shopping about five times a day, all while silently crying. Let me show you the things I've been oogling for a while now, and as soon as I get a job, my money is going straight there and i'll probably be back in this same situation.

Summertime Bliss!

Ello!

Summertime in NEW ORLEANS feels soo good! It feels soo good to be back in my hometown and to actually take the time, stop and enjoy life. Usually I'm always on a run, filling up my week with social plans, shopping like it's a job, djing 4 times a month and getting 7 hours o sleep(which isn't enough for me). I've been back home for about 3 weeks and I can honestly say I've been chilling.By chilling i mean riding my bike around the city nonstop(its my new hobby, i ABSOLUTELY love bike riding!), getting snowballs-not once but twice a day, catching up with old friends, declining party invites and dj gigs, sleeping with my windows open, looking for road trips to the beach, video chatting/emailing close friends in a different country, and basically unwinding from school.

I had 2 intense quarters at school and i loved it! I fell in love with Sculpture and even thinking about seriously changing from Fashion Marketing to Graphic Design. My new school has taught me to always give any and all of my artwork everything I have, and teaching myself to finish pieces even if i dont love them. One of my summer goals is to get more of my artwork out there, do more work on my own time and not on school time. I want to paint on junk i find randomly in the street, explore more with my experimental, mixed media type work.I'm pretty excited and can't wait to start painting again. Oh yea, I used to hate painting for the last 4 years, but I also fell in love with that. SCAD is helping me find myself artistically and that's one of the main reasons why I wanted to go there. I have a few ideas on what I want to create and make next and I'm all about painting on old furniture right now!

So what has been my summer wardrobe soo far or what have I been really feeling? I have finally got over my fear of red. Well i wouldn't call it a fear but i would always get frustrated when I put it on because it didn't exactly put me in the happiest mood. I also found it very hard to make a red ensemble look put together with accessories and make it not look like a bad prom outfit. I bought red lipstick in January and kept saying to myself everyday, " Today is the day I wear it." but then i wouldback out . Then five months later, my first day I got back in NOLA, I said," today is the day, whether I like it or not. I need to face it." I put it on and seriously I didn't not put it down for two weeks. It pulls any oufit together that feels blah, makes my teeth and eyes look wider, brightens my face and emphasizes my cheek bones. RED LIPSTICK DOES WONDERS! After that, I've been buying more red accessories, dress, shirts, etc. I can't see my life without red. I even started painting more with red. I officially don't hate it any more on me. It makes me instantly feel happy and energized now! It may be one of my favorites!

Other than red lipstick, I've really been into mid driffs, more along the lines of frilly feminine midriffs and wearing them with high waist jeans, showing a peek of skin at times...I've been releasing my inner Amber Rose(Kanye's beautiful girlfriend) mixed with 1950s Havana nights! Midriffs, full skirts, high waist jeans, scarves tied Cinderella/Tupac style, bright lip, and big hair.I think Amber Rose really started the red lipstick thing for me, and then after I did it, i felt like i could overcome anything bold taking. She is a fly chick that dominates the world without saying a word.

Since summer has started, I've been in love with white dresses-boho,wraps,preppy,etc. I love them all. I've really been feeling more frilly bohemian white dress and a red lip to top it off.I'm also big on denim, especially denim vests and dresses. They are soo nautical and 80s at the same time! I really adore high waist full mini skirts. They are soo flattering, so playful and so 50s havana. i love it!

Hey!
Sorry i haven't been updating as much. School is pretty intense and by time i get on the computer I turn it right back off to go to sleep. My camera has been broken for the last month and when I get a new one, The Fashion Scavenger will change, A WHOLE LOT- from the layout, the main content, more advice, etc. Whenever I can make it to best buy out of my busy schedule, to get a new cam, I will start using it more for my blog and be more active. I won't say what I'm taking pics of yet, but it will be taken from my camera. I may even start being more active on Ebay so I could sell more stuff through my blog also.

Ill keep it posted!

KELIS!

First blog of 2009! Happy New Years! I'm already settled in Atlanta. It has been exactly a week since I moved here. I love it but not as much as New Orleans and New York, but it would be third on my list. There is soo much to do, and even for me, it's overwhelming. The people are beautiful and nice, some parts remind me of home, school is stressful in a good way, and I'm meeting new kids really fast! Tomorrow I'm going vintage shopping and checking out the Bodies Exhibit. I've been waiting to see that exhibit for the past year and I keep letting it slip my mind. Tomorrow will be the day!

Moving on.....

Everyday is Kelis day in my world.

I've been waiting to blog about Kelis for ages. If I could, I would write about her everyday. She is so adorable and not the typical female. She has tons of tattoos, demands respect from men, talented in singing, rapping and producing, and not to mention her die hard sense of fashion. She reminds me of a Brooklyn-esque Billie Holiday I would love to be her stylist in about a year or two! I cannot say whether I loved her natural long curly hair better or her short wavy pixie cut. They are both very cute. She is inspiring me as we read to cut all my hair off. BTW her Tasty album is one of my favorite albums, with some songs featuring Andre 3000 and of course, Nas. Even though Nas are in most of these pics, he stands out just as much. They are one fashionable gorgeous couple! All the pics I have ever seen, she is never wearing a bra. I wish i could be one of those chicks who have bra options. There is no way these Double D's are going outside without a bra, unless someone could tape me in? Here are some of my favorite looks I found from her.

ATLANTA!

I'm flying out to Atlanta tomorrow to visit with my mom. The main reason for this trip is to tour the school and check out the city a bit. I'm sure this will involve some shopping, coffee, no sleep and just roaming this city..at least for me. I'm pretty excited. I still haven't packed yet, but I'll only be there for 3 days. I have a 6 am flight tommorow. BUMMER! Maybe i can get the rest of my Christmas shopping done also?

BOOTS!

I'm glad I'm finally serious about buying my harness boots, especially before I take off in January. Of course I have doubts about these boots being comfortable and able to walk in for hours at a time, but has my doubts ever stopped me from buying something? NO!....so it's time to take a chance with these. Here are a couple I found on Ebay. I cant decided which ones has my heart just yet. and for the first time ever, I cant decide between brown and black. I usually go for black but I think brown is close on this one.
