New Media Project

New Photos of my everyday outfits coming soon! I helped my friend out with a group project for her New Media class. She asked me to model for a photo shoot. I'm usually really shy on photo shoots and decline if someone asks me to model. But she explained the whole concept and I thought it would be really cool to be apart of it, plus I could post it on The Fashion Scavenger when its finished to share with you guys.

The concept is about a girl who can't decide on what to wear so she goes through tons and tons of different outfits. Each shot is of a different outfit with me changing in and out of the clothes. I used my own clothes/accessories and shoes for the shoot which helped me to be a little bit more comfortable in front of camera. I was uber excited that I could style myself. Usually its me styling other models for a photo shoot, so this was fun and different. The photographer took about 300-500 shots and will piece them together to make a stop motion film! I had to stand in the same spot the whole time and nothing could move like the camera, mirror behind me or the progressively scattered clothes around the room.
We did the shoot in one of the other group member's high rise apartment overlooking the Atlanta skyline. It was so beautiful! The shoot took place in her room, which was very Parisian and minimal with huge bed and windows! We used natural lighting, so as my outfits went from day to night, so did the actual lighting. My hair and makeup changes progressively also, starting off with a more natural look and then towards the end I'm made up and ready to go! I saw a preview of one photo from a girls phone and it looked great! Everyone involved were super sweet, talented and I'm honored that they asked me to be apart of it. I should have the stop motion film and individual photos by next week!

Snowed in Soundtrack

I finally made it out of my apartment after being snowed in for the last 4 days. I was able to freely speed on the road today instead of having to drive like 5 miles an hour! I have been out over this past weekend but I was still limited on where I could go. The streets were still icy and some places still were't open. This was my first time being snowed in and honestly had no clue what to do with my self! I was going crazy just being stuck inside with only some food, internet and cable. Even though it partially sucked, the other half was pretty amazing! Boredom brought me to catching up on reading books and  some blogs I haven't read in a while, did some cooking, playing with makeup and hair( to the point of me looking like a clown), video chatting all day, and most importantly I found some new music! I'm always on a hunt for music I never heard about! It gets me all giddy! I found out about Radio Dept., Frightened Rabbit, George & Jonathan! I even gave Slum Village a listen and I was in shock by how amazing their sound was. Here are some of the albums I played nonstop this whole week.. Actually I think they were my most played albums in ITunes in 2010.

My Snowed in soundtrack for the week.

1. Corinne Bailey Rae: The Sea

2. Gorillaz: Plastic Beach

3. Kate Nash: Made of Bricks

4. The Radio Dept: Clinging to a Scheme ( this is one of the new bands I discovered and I think they just might be my favorite new band!)

5. Karen O and the Kids: Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack

One of my favorite videos and songs from the Arctic Monkeys. Video is kind of sad but well directed.Lyrics are amazing. Man I cannot stop playing this song! Its soo good! Enjoy!

If you get a chance to check it out, Kate Nash actually did a cover of this song and its equally as amazing!

Snow Day, Please go away!

Hey Everybody!

I've been snowed in for about 2 days now, so I might as well write a new post! Who knew it snowed so much in Atlanta?! I mean I can't go anywhere or do anything outside my apartment, so let's make this a productive day! I slept in late because I was up late last night watching The Terminal with Tom Hanks and cried my eyes out! It's rare that a movie makes me cry and if I do cry, it much be a really great movie. I also have a huge crush on Tom Hanks too.

I woke up from great night's sleep, and made an amazing iced espresso drink in my own kitchen! I just got an espresso machine and it's been taking me a while to get a good brew of espresso.I finally think I perfected it. Making espresso is a science and is definitely a trial and error process. First of all, you need an espresso roast and not regular coffee to make a great espresso drink. I know, it seems obvious, but discussion forums online said I could use any type of coffee for espresso, so I bought this pumpkin spice blend. Realized the coffee sucked and luckily a coffee friend told me there is an espresso roast and thats what I need. Found the espresso roast and this is what lead me to great espresso in the morning. While the espresso was brewing, I poured in a little vanilla syrup at the bottom of the mug, glazed the inside of the mug with chocolate syrup, poured in espresso, ice, and some soy milk! Delicious and easy!

Moving on from my coffee adventures, I haven't done a men's post in a long time, so today will be for men! I love so many different types of styles for men, especially since they are pretty much limited to only jeans, shirts, and jackets. More men are now buying accessories more than ever and it's looking great because it's giving the "jeans and shirt" look a more personalized style. I'm all for mixing styles up for men, as well as for women. I mean it's more fun that way when you can experiment and not be so serious! One day, it's preppy, the next its more old school hip hop, or maybe the next is more european or the next is more skater, etc. It's all about buying staples and classics that will last you a long time and that are of great quality. You want items that you can get a lot of use out of and not just something you can wear with only one thing or one color. There are so many options! Here are some of my favorite men items right now...

Bench Ant Neck Logo Jacket $51.72 asos.com
Simple, light and with a zipper funnel neck jacket. Very interesting and an effortless jacket to just throw on and look put together. I don't understand why this model looks so uncomfortable and stiff in this jacket but he should cheer up because it's a dope jacket!

Lambretta Terrace Jacket $117 asos.com
This lightweight jacket is pretty pricey for a jacket but I think it would be a nice investment. Military inspired. Great piece for layers. Throw on a cardigan underneath the jacket in a print or color and put a coat on top to pull off the rest of the look.

Asos Peacoat $65 asos.com
This jacket is on sale right now for $65. It used to be $129.This is a really great deal for a peacoat and will be warm for the winter. Its 61% wool 27% polyester, viscose and acrylic. This jacket is heavier weight than the top two so you may not need to wear a cardigan underneath but would still look good with one. This can go with anything. Throw on an oversized scarf, a great watch, leather gloves, and a little hat.Very cute and classic!

Asos Military Trench coat $60.34 asos.com
Wool mixed Trenchcoat! Another classic that will last you for years. Timeless and will never go out of style. This one has military detailing with a double breast design.

Gant Rugger Ranger Parker $218 asos.com
Alright this Parka may not keep you warm but it is such an amazing jacket! Great colors! A little pricey but I don't doubt you guys can find something similar and for much cheaper. Love the styling of this photo too! Navajo knit sweater underneath the parker with cuffed jeans and some combat boots. Comfortable, unpretentious and natural.
Nike AW77 Stadium Sweatshirt $80 karmaloop.com
Man I love me some Karmaloop! Urban, hip independent site with a ridiculous amounts of clothing, accessories and shoes just waiting to be bought up! If you are more of a sweatshirt type of guy, here's an amazing sweatshirt. Has a 90's feel but yet very modern too.
Apliiq The Signal Fire Hoody $89 karmaloop.com
LOVE THIS! Love the inside of this hoodie. I think I might want this for myself.

Crooks & Castles  Contrast Crew Sweatshirt $90 Karmaloop.com
I'm always for stripes, especially vertical ones. Makes you look taller and slimmer.

Bed Stu $134. 95 solestruck.com
Oooo! I love these boots! I love these boots! I love these boots! I guess I'm really feeling this military takeover, but its so great. That back flap pocket is so unexpected and cool. No details about this shoe but it looks like a mix of suede and leather! YES!

Timbaland Tackhead Boot $289.95 solestruck.com
Great boot to invest in! Made of leather and lined with wool on the inside to keep your feet warm! Instead of glued, the shoe is sewn and stitched, meaning these will last for a really long time before actually falling apart and I'm talking at least 7 years!

Abington by Timbaland $219.95 solestruck.com
Love the red laces! Very casual cool. Leather and suede!

I know some of these items are kind of pricey but discount code sites, like retailmenot.com, can give you promotion codes for any website usually ending up in free shipping or 30% or more discounts. It's worth it!You just type in the website you're shopping on and it will list all discount codes that you can use. AMAZING!

Hope everybody has a good day today! Au Revoir!

Happy Two Thousand Heaven!

I love the New Year! It encourages you to change your habits, do new things, and makes you rethink how you plan to finally get to your dream goals! I stopped making New Year's resolutions about three years ago because I felt like nothing was getting accomplished. I would start the change and within 2 weeks I would give up or forget about it. So what's the point? I feel like I get more done anyways when I don't make an actual resolution at midnight on New Years Eve. So far it has been working out great for me. So instead of resolutions, I'll tell you guys my goals I hope to accomplish for 2011 and show ya'll some of the clothing I'm loving in this New Year. If it doesn't get acheived, I won't beat myself up over it. There's always next year right?

1. Keep teaching myself how to cook. Cook more ethnic recipes! Buy more cookbooks! ( I already two this year!=an Indian Cookbook and 500 recipe plus book(which includes many ethnic foods)

2. Get an Internship for the Summer, preferably with a magazine and hopefully in New York Austin, Miami or San Francisco. I'm fine with staying in Atlanta too!

3. Visit Mexico City. I love traveling and M.C. is on the top of my list. I am absolutely in LOVE with Mexican Folklore Art, handmade items and Mexican/ Aztec architecture. I hear many stories about how cool and underrated the city is. StreetPeeper.com always shows the awesome street style of Mexico City, plus a vacation there shouldn't be too hard on my wallet. My friend Olivia and I are talking about renting an apartment in the middle of downtown Mexico City for about a month.

Nothing too far fetched right? Pretty realistic I say.

Had my first cupcake of 2011 already and obviously I was excited! Really excited that my afro hair can now go into a perfectly wrapped bun. White Chocolate Macadamia Cupcake with ultra high icing. YUM!

Here are some of the stuff I'm dreaming about right now...

Jeffrey Cambell " One O One" $134.95
Military inspired wedges!
solestruck.com

Finsk $589 solestruck.com
I can't afford these shoes but they are nice to look at or at least dream about! Some people might be thinking these may be comfortable but promise they will be. I tryed on a similar pair on in the store and they were ridiculously comfortable, and I don't live in heels everyday. They're so architectural but simple

Gee Wa Wa $234.95 solestruck.com
Love Love LOVE these shoes! So weirdly cool! I love the heel and I would probably be 6'1 in these shoes!

Seneca Rising Pynes Romper $168 Nastygal.com
Anyone who has been reading for a while or at least personally knows me, KNOWS that I am a true lover of rompers, playsuits, onesie- whatever you want to call them! They are so playful, comfortable and can wear with just about anything. I love the styling of this look also. The color is beautifuI! need to pair some knee highs with a few of my rompers in my closet collection.

Leopard Harem Pants $48 nastygal.com
I'm really into printed African esque baggy pants right now! I want at least 7 pairs by the end of March so I can wear them all winter, carry them into the spring and wear nonstop in the Summer. I'm all for Leopard. These are a dream.

Aztec Jumpsuit $68

Here's another one! African printed and a romper!? Need this for my closet collection! Not badly priced either.

Exposed Harem Pants $68 nastygal.com
These sheer harem pants are GENIUS! Perfect the summer. Layer underneath some crazy printed leggings. I can see it now....

I'm all giddy all over these things! I found much more stuff but we can save those for future posts! Enjoy your day, wherever you are in the world! Happy New Year!
