My 1st Dinner Party!

Good Afternoon!

I'm throwing my first EVER Dinner party this Sunday and I'm CRAZY excited about this! I mean why not? A few close friends- old and new, gathering around drinking holiday drinks, dancing and just talking. Sounds relaxing! I made it a Potluck Dinner party meaning everyone who comes cooks something and bring it to the party to share. Sharing is caring! I, of course will be cooking a three course meal, I think, for everyone.

Here is what I think will most likely be on the menu. Im still thinking and still brainstorming, but this is what I have so far...

Drinks
Gluwein= A German spiced wine that you can make at home, which is boiled on the stove. It consists of dry red wine, orange slices, nutmeg, cinnamon, whole cloves and sugar! Perfect Holiday drink!

Blueberry Sparkling Juice

Thai Tea= I found some in the store and its so easy to make. It comes in powder form. Boil water, pour a little bit into your coffee mug, put some of the thai tea mix in there, fill with ice and add vanilla soy milk! ( I've been drinking this nonstop all week! So good!)

Appetizers
Homemade Guacamole Dip with White Corn Tortilla Chips
Brie Cheese and Crackers

Salad
Garden Salad with Tomatoes, Mozzarella cheese and topped with Spinach and Feta Cheese Dressing

Main Course
Baked Tilapia topped with Garlic Butter Sauce and Steamed Asparagus. I need one more side to make it more balanced! and maybe I'll add an orange garnish for prettyness?

Dessert
I'm thinking of buying a fruit tart from Whole Foods! Have ya'll tryed it? Its amazing!!

For those of you who don't know me, I have been teaching myself how to cook for almost 2 years now. To say that I am throwing a dinner party and showcasing what I can do, really shows a lot. I never really cooked COOKED for somebody but these are dishes that I have cooked for myself and they are truly delicious! I get really shy when cooking for people but I think this dinner party will be a success because I do feel comfortable  with the meals I plan on cooking! I made the Guacamole dip and Gluwein for the first time earlier this week and was all excited telling my mom and sister( who are the best chefs I know!) and they were so proud. Im happy, proud and ultimately surprised because they came out really good and do taste delicious! I hope the others will enjoy it too! I'll try to take some really good photos of the party guests and food!

Au Revoir!

Three is a magic number

I grew up on Schoolhouse Rock and it seriously gave me more interest in learning, especially in math because i HATED math.  This song is so beautiful and I love this video. I love how the illustrations are so simple but yet effective. I miss when cartoons were made the old fashioned way in pen and paper. It's sad technology has taken over everything and cartoons just aren't the same anymore. Hopefully you'll enjoy this video as much as I do!

CLOG CRAZY!

Bonjour!

I dont know if you guys are on this new rapidly growing clog shoe trend...At first I wasn't too sure about the style because i felt it would be super noisy, unflattering and honestly, kind of ugly. I still think they are ugly, but now they are somewhat interesting. Ever since Olivia featured them in a post earlier this year, I was like okay..It's looking a little better. There is some hope. A friend of mine actually asked me to write a clog only post. By going through websites trying to find some dope ones, I actually fell in love with them. Of course I fell in love with the nontraditional type because i still think the traditional clogs are pretty hideous...but for the nontraditional ones, i can grow to love them... I personally will not buy a pair because i think even though I have long legs that these clogs will make my legs look a little stubby and probably make my hips look wider than they are. NO thanks! I do have an appreciation for people who can pull them off though...Kudos! Here are few of cool ones I found...

These clogs are beautiful! Fur, studs, and leather straps! A lot is going on but it somehow flows together. These wouldn't look like actual clogs with jeans on but rather an awesome boot. It would even be cute showing with a super feminine dress maybe with a military inspired jacket!
Bertie Dana Fur Clog $ 160.08(asos)
If I did wear clogs, these would most definitely be a pair I would buy in a heart beat! I've always loved Tribal/Azteca types of styles on  any item of clothing. I love that these are clogs/ platforms/ slingbacks with metal-tribal detailing....LOVE the combo! The heel is a higher than the usual clog and i love that! If these were cheaper, I would buy these today!
Dune Mandi Clog Mules $ 143. 23(Asos)

Traditional suede clogs mixed with a little fur around the ankle, low heel. Considering these are UGGS (gross.) I'm assuming they are well made and crazy warm! This is probably the cutest thing UGGS has ever made.
Ugg Lynnea Clog Suede $337.00(asos)

My ultimate favorite clogshoe! I've never seen a shoe that looks like this. Its a mixed between a clog and an ankle bootie, and look, more fur is involved! Obviously the fall is and will always be fur obsessed. I love the army green greige color of them too! These clogs are just all around dope and would definitely shell out $290 for them to be a part of my life!
Fur Cuff $290.00 (Topshop)

Bisou Bisou!

Men Style Advice

Hey world!
I have been slacking on this blog. Olivia and I have been hanging out when I go back home to visit in New Orleans. We came up with this idea to make this a picture only blog. We think it's too much to actually write things and that our readers would rather see visuals more than words. What do you guys think?

So I recieved a question about a month ago from a fellow friend in Louisiana.

Lesly,
I am not the skinniest boy in the world, but I have a little pudge. How can I camouflage this while also looking stylish?
-Thomas

Hey Thomas!
I suggest that you wear vertical stripes. This creates the illusion that you are skinnier plus it camouflages your pudge. Also any other type of prints would do the same thing, just make sure they are not oversized, more subtle and tinier prints. Try the art of Layering!  This helps camouflage also. If you are wearing a V neck(great for a illusion of making you look skinnier, add on a structured vest or a lightweight jacket(bomber style would be great). I suggest not wearing skinny jeans either. Skinny jeans are worn but everybody, but sadly are not made for everybody. If you have love handles or hips, it will emphasize both of them in an unflattering way. If you do do skinny, I suggest a higher rise or more of a bootcut type of skinny., BTW bootcut is flattering on anyone including girls. Try it in a better brand too to get the most for your buck. Investing in jeans is great investment because they last a long time and the better quality the better they will look on you. Just doing these things alone would shave off 10 lbs of you.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Today is meant to be fun!

Hey all!

I got out of class an hour ago and I have the day to seize! Usually I'm super tired after class and pass out for 9 hours and then do more school work. But not today! The weather is kind of warming up(61 degrees is way better than 28 with snow!)...

Long story short, I'm going thrifting today at Last Chance Thrift Store in Atlanta and there is a 50% sale off of EVERYTHING! Yes, you heard me, EVERYTHING! I always say that I will make it to somebody's half off sale one day but it never ends up happening. I'll post my (hopefully amazing) treasures and finds on what I find. I will also be selling some clothes on Ebay soon, including a dope ass leather jacket and two Cosby sweaters!  Today  I am mainly looking for dresses- colorful, beautifully ugly, plain, etc! I just need more dresses in my closet!  I need more dresses to wear! I used to have alot but they mysteriously have disappeared.I realized I spend way too much time buying skirts and shoes. I need dresses that I can throw on and can look instantly amazing in, so hopefully today is the day! Also a new men dedicated post is coming soon too, I was asked numerous questions recently about men style.

This is my happy stoked let's go thrifting face!

Pictures coming soon!

What is needed in a man's closet?

Hey world!

I haven't written enough posts about men style like I have been promising. Therefore, every post I write this month will focused on men because we can be leaving you out like that! I decided to share much needed tips for men and their personal style. Of course you can always substitute for styles you much rather prefer but are still similar. Here are my suggestions for updating your style and closet:

1. Don't be afraid to mix up prints!! If you are scared that you may look like a clown, do more subtle low key prints and colors. The trick is staying in the same color family so that you won't look like a clown. Or if you aren't afraid of color, do complimentary or monochromatic color schemes. You know navy and orange, red and green etc. Try light blues with dark blues, orange with shades of browns and dark reds. Of course if you're dealing with two loud colors, just make sure one color is more toned down than the other or mixing a smaller print with a bigger print. It's all about contrasts- highs and lows. For instance, do a small black and white gingham print and put a a small striped black and white cardigan on with it. Or a brown and red striped tee with an orange jacket or cardigan. Get it?

2. Layers, yes please! Layers pulls any outfit together, plus it makes it look like you are put together and that you took time to get ready this morning. Of course this is probably not the case, that is why this works! Layers basic tees over basic tees, cardigans underneath jackets or coats or both. Monochromatic color schemes works as an advantage in this case too because it makes you more polished. Analogous color schemes works too meaning colors that are next to each other in the color wheel.( for example red, red orange and orange would look good together. In fact anything you like works too, as long as you have the confidence for it people would believe it too. I'm not afraid to wear red with sea foam green(one of my favorite mixed combinations)

3. Speaking of layers you need great classic pieces! These are the pieces that are timeless, that go with just about everything and fit you really well. Therefore you need to invest a little more extra money into it. I'm not talking high end pieces, just brands that are well known for their quality. These pieces include basic tees, cardigans, jacket, a really great well fitting jean, neutral colored peacoat. I would say to build this up over time, you would probably need two or three of each and you can mix it into your other items that are not so classic. If you are not a cardigan person, just try trying it on and layering it over your basic tee and underneath your jacket or coat. Of course you would want to go with the neutrals for all of these items. Blues, blacks, browns, and whites. Dark gem stone colors work in place of neutrals too to get a little interesting details to your clothing(forest greens, plums, navy, rubies, etc) Some brands that are great for basic tees are Calvin Klein, DKNY, and GAP. For great fitting jeans, set out a day to actually try on tons of jeans and don't get frustrated. It takes tons of time to find the perfect fitting jean and when you do, buy in quantity if possible. Check out GAP, Diesel, Guess, Levi, and Lee brands or stores that carry really great pairs. A dark blue wash or dark grays work well for versatile looks.

4. Accessories Yes men you can accessorize too. All you need are belts that are simple, pick some in neutral colors and maybe some with small detailing for personality. Handmade ones are always cool. Belts are another item of clothing that makes you look put together when you wear a belt. Find a cool watch- lego looking if you are into quirky items, more simple classic ones if you want timeless, etc. Just find one that you like. Sunglasses and scarves are other things that pulls an outfit together. Shoes can also become an accessory if you are really into shoes. Different styles and colors make a shoe an accessory. It gives your outfit tons of personality and lets face it,  people are ALWAYS looking at your shoes.

5. You need a great shoe! Sneakers are great for experimentation, if you need a breather from your usual style, or a huge sneaker head! I love sneakers, especially nike dunks. There is always a sneaker from Nike that fits just about everyone's personality. Try also Chuck Taylors or Vans. Canvas shoes are also my favorite type of sneaker that I wear personally everyday. They are comfy, not too much and are super comfy and relaxed. They come in bright colors too! Lace up or slip ons are available. Try KEDS, Urban Outfitters, and Tom's.Tom's donate money to a child in need every time someone buys a pair of their shoes. If you are feeling a little bit more trendy or polished, try an oxford shoe. One in an olive green or a black and white oxford would be really awesome. These two can be substitutes for a neutral shoe. They work just as well.

6. Don't be afraid of color. Color is best friend and it looks great mixed with neutrals. Therefore both are recommended to be apart of your closet. Once again you wont look like a clown and if you have a fear of it, just try it. It doesn't hurt. Start little by little adding color in unsuspecting places in your wardrobe. Try a muted colors and then a bright sneaker or bright shirt with a muted jacket and accessories. Mix it up. most Importantly have fun with it! That is what great style is about. Its about knowing what you love and like to wear and having confidence. It doesn't matter if you think you will look crazy to others. Usually when you have the confidence to pull it off people will feel it and always wonder how do you do it all so well while looking amazing.

Good luck and email me with any questions or other tips

Style Girl of 2009 Zoe Saldana

Hey Everyone. Its me Olivia wishing you a Happy 2010!!!!!

2009 is gone and thats okay, because it was just that a, “OKAY” year. Nothing life

changing but definitely not boring. And, for that reason I’m really looking forward to 2010. I believe that this is my year for expanding my creative side and letting loose. Building up better foundations and tiring down crumbling shacks. This year is about taking risks and watching them pay off. Just like my Zoe Saldana did in 2009. This dancer turn actress was in some of the most talk about films of last year. From Star Trek to Avatar she was all over the map literally. Every red carpet she hit from Japan to London she looked amazing. Never over doing it like most of last year celebrities i.e Beyonce and RiRi. Always sexy without even having to wear skin tight clothing. Playful and city chic in jeans and a blazer. And always the right amount of accessories. Especially when she is with her boyfriend Keith Britton from CSI. Laid back and cool, her style seems effortless on and off the red carpet. Thats why she is my 2009 Style Woman of the Year.

If your going to spend $10,000 who want it to look great. So take hint Beyonce less is more because your 10 grand went to waste at the BET awards.

I know you can't help but to look at her. The dress is so relax but all so sexy.

Uptown Chic with a hint of undone.

This is the big shoulders done right. When you working with so much on top everything else should fitted to the body and simple. Take this hint RiRi and Beyonce and you too Kim.

What do you need with any bling when you got all this great metal work.

Fun and Flirty free. Love this dress!!!

White Hot!!!!!

And even Zoe had competition.........

2009 Style Girl of the Year Runner up....

Then there’s my runner up who give my Style girl of the year competition all year around. Known as the it girl around town and attending every worth while fashion event how could I not put her up here. I like to introduce you to one of the badiest b...tch in the fashion magazine game. Editor-at-large of Pop Magazine Shala Monroque. Seen in posted from Style.com to Whowhatwear.com who has talked about her amazing style. Her outfits are always playful, sophisticated, quirky, and never overly trendy. Just add a fun, carefree, and harding working attitude how can you not love her. Plus being the girlfriend to famously art mogul Larry Gagosian doesn’t hurt. So check her out and her blog http://shala.thepop.com/ if you like what you see.

2009 Style Girl of the Year Runner up...

God just look at her.

Love the head wrap with that dress.

I don't see to many natural beauty but I believe she could bring them out the wood works. Girls take heed and learn.

Love the laid back vibe of this outfit.

Who needs Breakfast at Tiffanys when you have Shala.

And take note you don't have to be "HARD" to hang out with the jungle animals.
Well I have to go brace my for the cold now so later peeps lol. XoXoLivvy

Worst Fashionable Girl of 2009, Rihanna

Happy 2010 again guys!

As you all know, Olivia has joined the Fashion Scavenger. Along with me, she will be writing new posts, taking pictures, offering fashion advice and anything else that comes to her mind.  We've known each other for about a year. We worked next door to each other and what else are girls supposed to do but have talks about lame trends, our favorite stylish celebs, fashion magazines and etc. She has traveled the world, is a non conformist and  is truly amazing. Welcome Olivia!

So on to the Worst Fashionable Girl of 2009. It is no one else but Rihanna. Some people may stone me for saying that but I don't care. Rihanna is over-styled and overrated. Sorry Ri Ri, but you need to keep it relaxed, pretend like you didn't try too hard to get dressed in the morning and stop looking for paparazzi. You are always going to trendy places( conveniently everyday), and to the places where you know the paparazzi are hiding and hanging out. You want to be seen and I think with that mentality, you need to find a better stylist. Your stylist obviously hates you. She always puts you in outfits that emphasizes your hips in a bad way. One rule of styling Ri, if you are pear shaped, wear shapes that camouflage the hips, not emphasize them. This means full skirts, high waists, bootcut/ straight legged pants, blazers and defining the tiniest part of you, your waist. It is always a hit and miss with you. Your songs are so bad, they make my ears bleed. I don't know why you are famous, but Rihanna, I'm annoyed with you.

Seriously Ri, where are you going? It looks like you're at a red carpet event. I don't think a Zebra print jumpsuit with tiger cuts is quite appropriate now is it?

Looking through all the horrible pics of you Ri, I realized you are in LOVE with this ugly leather hat. Do me a favor and please stop wearing it. This is really bad styling. Does your stylist not know that a shirt that high on your hip along with a point in the middle will EMPHASIZE YOUR HIPS AND MAKE YOU LOOK BIGGER THAN WHAT YOU ARE.

Was this made during a high school sewing class?

Ri, Please, this is breaking my heart. Really? Really. Be natural, Be yourself. Fine, have a stylist but make sure they are making you look better than you naturally are. Bleached jeans are so unflattering on pear shapes, matter fact on everybody. They will make anybody look bigger, including boys. It draws major attention to your hips. The baggy shirt and pink fringe heels doesn't help either.

Sadly I wish I was kidding when I say all of these photos were taken in 2009. Newspaper pants?

Ri ,you are a beautiful girl. Why you add a bad honey blonde hair piece in and unflattering plum shade on as lipstick is beyond me? This is the WORST outfit I have EVER see you in. You were aged about 20 years with this makeup and honestly you remind me of that aunt  on TV who is always drinking beer and smoking 3 packs a cigarettes a day. I don't even want to talk about that dress.

Ri, I don't mean to dog you but I think it is your right as a human being, singer and "fashion icon" to tell your stylist when YOU think you might look  a little crazy. Come on! You have a voice don't you? Hopefully 2010 will be filled with better styling from you miss. It's hard to win my heart back...

Yo, Its Me. Its Who? The New Girl In Town. LIVVY!!!!!!!!

Hey Girls and Guys, My name is Olivia but most people call me “O” or Livvy , either one is fine by me. I’m going to be a new contributor to Fashion Scavenger helping my girl Lesly keep the blog up and giving you my view point about fashion and its crazy world. A little bit about me: I grew up in New Orleans, went to college in New York City for a few years and I’m finishing at UNO with a degree in History and pre-law. While I was in New York I developed a love for fashion and how people used it to express themselves. To me fashion is something you don't just see on the cover of magazines and on TV, its not about labels, or how well you can walk in those 12inch Alexander McQueen Alien shoes. Its about enjoying what you put on, helping you to express your mood for that day. So what Lesly and I envision for the blog is to give you a view point thats full with honesty and not to conform to fashion standards. Because I know your thinking that you have had enough of Lady Gaga and Beyonce craziness ( even tho I do like Lady Gaga lol). So show me some love and the blog too. I’ll see you SOON!!!!!!!!!

My Favorite Fashionable Girl of 2009, Zoe Kravitz

Hey All! Happy 2010!

I'm so excited for this year. Usually even numbered years work out for me better than the odds, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed(2009 was kind of wack). If you have been following my blog, you know that I am a HUGE fan of Zoe Kravitz. Yes, the daughter of hot daddy, Lenny and my idol,Lisa Bonet. I have always talked about her in my blogs but wasn't able to back it up with enough great photos of her amazing style. Now that she is the face of Vera Wang's perfume, dumped Ben Foster(who I absolutely ADORE) and started going out with "that guy from MGMT", the world is finally falling in love with her. Meaning, more photos of her style online. Happily, I found
some photos of her with her more adorable" I just woke up and I didn't try too hard, but I did, yet you can't tell" type of style

Zoe Kravitz

Adore.

I want a head wrap like this. I'm not too crazy about the leggings.

Dedication to Clarissa Explains It All and the 90s.

Strolling around NYC,relaxed,simple and cute.

Fashion week. I love! So chic and age appropriate.

Zoe and her hot daddy Thumbs up for both outfits!

Zoe has a way of looking undone and carefree without looking sloppy

Love the boots!

L.A. done right.

my favorite outfit ever! Very Lisa Bonet-ish. Maybe that's why I'm in love with her mom.

Relaxed but great for night time. Lovin' the red lip and exposed shoulder!

Adorable! I love when Zoe gets crazy feminine<3

I wonder if she has a stylist? I hope she doesn't because this seems like her own natural cool carefree style. It pays to be creative! But if she does, KUDOS to her stylist for making her look like herself and not like an overstyled poser

Don't worry I'll post the Worst Fashionable Girl of 2009 on here tomorrow.
